The district is
not included in operation flood area, but because of climatic condition
and the villagers attitude there is a great scope for dairy. In 1984-85,
an approach for dairy development was taken up with rural dairy
(chilling plant) of 2000 liters capacity. The dairy development
activities have been taken up by the Dairy Development Officer of the
district, on the similar pattern as envisaged in operation flood
Programme. The result was encouraging. But dairy has not yet been
organised and covered in planned manner in whole Lohardaga district.
That is why, although the present capacity of the rural dairy cum
chilling plant is of 10,000 liters per day, the average milk coming to
the chilling plant is 2200 liters per day. Still the chilling plant is
running at profit. So there is a lot of potential in this activity and
the proposed project is to expand the activity in an organized way.
Objective
To
increase the income of poor families at least by Rs. 20,000 through
integrated dairy development Programme i.e. by
-
Organizing poor farmers, landless laborers through dairy
cooperative societies,
-
Enhancing milk potential in the district through providing
milk enhancing inputs, cattle induction, breed improvement, introducing
better cattle management practices and through providing vital marketing
link direct from the door step of the producers.
-
Utilizing the full capacity of the chilling plant.
Mode of
Implementation:
Selection of farmers
and milching animal procurement:
The
project will be implemented in active collaboration with PRADAN, an NGO
working in this district. Representative of PRADAN will be member of the
Managing Committee responsible for the management of Lohardaga Dairy.
The villages will be divided among the Dairy Development Officer &
PRADAN for selection of farmers, organizing themselves into dairy
co-operative society, establishment other linkages. Fifty percent of the
total projected farmers will be selected by PRADAN from the villages
allotted to the organisation. Each new farmer will be given two milching
animals at 50% subsidy and 50% loan from the local banks, which will be
repaid from the milk supplied by the farmer to the co-operative. Also he
will be provided one month cattle feed and other necessities like GI
sheet need, iron chain, GI bucket etc. at full subsidy. Whole money will
come to the Dairy Development Officer. The Dairy Development Officer and
PRADAN will help the farmers to purchase the animals of good breed.
Dairy Development Officer and PRADAN representatives will manage all
these jointly.
